Educating our children is key to their safety

Nana knows…

The world is not always a safe place for little ones. Fire kills about 500 children ages 14 and younger every year in America. And, according to the latest statistics from the National SAFE KIDS Campaign and the United States Fire Administration, the leading cause of residential fire-related death and injury among children ages 9 and younger is carelessness.

Car-verses-pedestrian accidents remain the second leading cause of unintentional-injury-related death among children ages 5 to 14. With 70 percent of all children in this age group riding bicycles, those injuries are mounting as well.

The School…

Nana knows…

The best prevention measure for childhood injury and related death is education - for children and their parents.

Nana’s Fire and Safety School offers a fun and exciting place to teach everyone about the kinds of accidents that hurt and kill America’s children every day.

The school focuses on issues like fire prevention, bicycle and pedestrian safety, motor vehicle safety for children as passengers and the dangers of speaking to strangers. A tiny village being built at the heart of Permian Basin Regional Training Center, the school will be sized for little learners, with streets and buildings set at their level, all sponsored through generous donations from area businesses and civic organizations.

Lessons will be interactive and fun, making learning a joy - for both children and their adult caregivers - and the message of prevention and safety is one they will carry into their own homes and communities.
